Karan Chhabra is a medical student at Rutgers Robert Wood Johnson Medical School, who’ll be pursuing In residency training in General Surgery in summer 2016. His career interests revolve around practicing academic surgery and working toward improving the value and quality of surgical care, particularly in the context of healthcare reform and delivery system change.
He enjoys writing for both public and academic audiences on health policy; he co-founded the blog Project Millennial and has contributed to Forbes.com, The Incidental Economist, The Health Care Blog, and other online outlets, as well as peer-reviewed journals such as JAMA and JAMA Surgery. He tweets about health policy, medical education, and surgery under @krchhabra. He also cares for uninsured patients and mentors junior medical students at his school’s student-run Promise Clinic.
Prior to medical school, he worked on strategic research for hospital executives at The Advisory Board Company, in Washington DC. As an undergraduate, he studied English at Duke University, where he also researched physician-patient communication. He has been elected to Alpha Omega Alpha, the Gold Humanism Honor Society, and Phi Beta Kappa. Outside of school, he enjoys trail running, rock climbing, and spicy food.
